tank stinks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll reinforce what has been said before. Instead of replacing the media a thorough rinse should suffice, and if it absolutely must be changed do one filter at a time a couple weeks apart.

Put in some new carbon, and do a thorough substrate cleaning and a few large water changes.

See I was thinking virgin filter material, I would likely not do a large waterchange in this situation. I think jump-start the filters bio build with established media from another tank, & stick to a more regular WC.

My oscar tank had an odor issue when I was forced to do a large WC & replace (all) media at the same time.

This is my office tank, and people were not happy. So the day after the unpleasant aroma appeared I brought in some transplant media from home & quickened the cycle greatly. Many happy employees soon followed.

never change all media at once :swear:
