I'm debating swapping my stock in between my two larger tanks. Have an 180 (8 ft) and a 125. Currently in the 180 is a pair of motas. Trying to get a pair of argentea in the 125. I would like to get another vieja pair and move the vieja pairs over to the 180 but I'm not sure if the swap would work. Anyone have any input?

so 2x vieja pair in a 180 vs 1 pair mota in a 125?

the motas in the 125 will work likely, but I'm not sure if you mean 2x pairs of vieja in the 180? Nor if it would work.

Motas in 125 I thought would work. 180 I was debating 2 separate pairs of vieja. Wasn't sure if it had any possibility of working or not.

I think the definition of "pair" with most Vieja is a bit looser than what you're thinking. Especially argentea.

Aclock, can you elaborate a bit more. With the RTMs I always have a divider on standby just in case. Have gone through the male almost killing the female and then back to being inseparable. I'm assuming Viejas are the same were they could snap on their partner at any point in time.

I agree with aclockwork, and think you will need 1-3 dividers at the ready. Mostly because of the argentea.
I have had both argents, and other Vieja types kept and or breed in a similar size tank.
The argents are very aggressive with each other and any other similar shaped species.
1st time an alpha male turned over night killing 6 other siblings, just after growing to 6".
Some years later another male crashed thru, or jumped over a divider after they spawned thru it, to off its mate.

Argentea seem to be a bit more tolerant of smaller fish, more torpedo shaped, but anything high bodied, and with shiny coloration.
Just my experience, take it with a grain of salt.

Duanes thanks for the info, appreciate any I can get. When you bred them where they in a 180? I know the setup will be a challenge and has some risks. Was seeing if anyone had done it before and how successful they were and if it was even possible.
