I brought home a health looking Endlicheri Brichir a couple weeks ago.
As soon as it was released in my tank he wasn't looking good. Would hardly move, not eating an it dorsal fin was deteriorating.
It was alone in the tank so it wasn't trauma. I'm assuming stress caused his dorsal and tail fins to break down? At it's worst there was only spines sticking up with no sail attached and tail fin badly split.
After four days he finally started to eat and now two week later it fins are just about back to normal and is doing awesome.

Has anyone experienced this? I couldn't find anything on it myself.

Cheers

ive experience something similar to that before. when you got it, it probably was damaged by another fish. Bichirs are well known to regenerate at a fast pace :)

to add extra protection and to make sure that its 110% back to norma;, you should add stress coat as well as aquarium salt :) that helps accelerate the regenerating process

Also as a reminder when you get new fish you might want to slowly acclimate them to your water. Put the contents in a bucket and gradually add small amounts of aquarium water at intervals before putting them in your tank.
