I just finished cycling a new aquarium and I am about ready to start stocking it. I am hooping to get Arowana but the tank is kind of an irregular size and I was hoping for some input from folks who have experience with the fish to see if it will be a environment for the fish. The tank is an Oceanic 150 gallon (I believe) its 84x18x24. My concern is the 18" width, will that be enough for an Arowana to turn around? Any input would be appreciated.

I am aware of the fact that I will have to remove the driftwood and possibly the substrate if I get an arowana.

I don't have a arowana, but I know that if it can't turn around comfortably it might get gill curl.

I think you need 30" width and 96" of length to do an arrowana

I believe they need a 24 inch wide tank in order to properly turn. You have the length down but it's the width that's the killer.

I don't know the turn radius of an Arowana. It may be just fine with 18" and it may not. That is why I posted. But thank you for your response.

Agree with what other members have stated 18 inches not wide enough for an adult Arowana.

I don't understand why tank makers make such long tanks then give them such a short width. A 48 by 18 is perfect. A 84 by 18 doesn't look right to me.

Follow up question. I am purchasing another aquarium next week. Its 84x25x28 will that be big enough? I see that members are bouncing back and forth between 24" & 30" being the minimum for Arowanas.
