I was wondering what temp you guys keep your p tanks. i did keep mine at 78 but someone suggested i make it 82. I turned it up to 82 and have found my piranha more active and less shy. they will swim around will and not hide at sudden movements thanks

80 f is what i keep my tanks at, 82 f is fine tho

I keep at 78-80. Some people have told me to turn it down from 82 cuz it doesnt keep as much oxygen in the tank with the higher temp?? Not sure how true this actuallyt is. At 82 my p's were breathing a lot more rapidly and gills moving a lot faster. After I turned it down to 78-80 they started breathing more normal also noticed less nips.

I would trust anything Joe says though, he seems to know his stuff and has been around a lot longer than I have

warmer water does hold less oxygen, around 80-82 f, there shouldn't be any problems, but you do wanna make sure that you provide extra aeration or surface agitation if you bump the temp up any higher

thanks joe i think i will turn down the temp to 80 and see how they behave. 1 have a 20 gallon sump with a fluval so ii am not worried about oxygen my sump runs 300 gallons an hour or something like that

yeah, you really shouldn't have to worry about it at normal temps, only if you bump up the temp because of parasites, disease, or injury

I keep mine at 80. Although since its been colder out my temp has been rising and lowering a degree in the morning and at night and i cant get it to stop. Bad..

if it is just 1 degree it should be ok. i had that problem with a 75 gallon salt water so instead of using a 300w i used 2 200watt heaters. they say using the 2 helps it not to flucuate. plus if one heater burns out you have the other to back it up. i use 2 heaters in my RBP tank to which is 100 gallon
