Just purchased a 125g, 72 x 22 h x 18 as their next size tank. It will take a few weeks before the setup is ready.

My 10 Maculatus are now 3-4 inches and growing, lone Kieneri is 2.5 inches. They are together in one tank with clown loaches.

My female Bleekeri, 6 inches and breeding Tarantsy pair, m7 inches/f5 inches are in another tank with 2 syno multis. The Bleekeri and Tarantsy are starting to get on each others nerves lately. The female Tarantsy has not been the same since her second spawn. I'm hearing more and more stories about the decline of females of this species post spawns.

I'm thinking since the Paretroplus are such an active shoal, they may bring the others out more often. I'm sure the extra 2 feet of length and extra height will help as well. The Paretroplus are gluttons, but the Bleekeri and Tarantsy are slow, lazy eaters. So that should be a challenge at feeding time.

Any thoughts comments, suggestions regarding keeping the Paretroplus, Tarantsy and Bleekeri together in the 125? I'm keeping the same type of scape they have now; subdued lighting, sand, driftwood, rocks, 'caves' lots of breaks in their line of sight.... But with a 3d BG I'm very excited to be installing.

My Menarambo are only 1.5 inches, so they've got more growing to do before they can join the others in the next tank after the 125. I don't think they're big enough to compete at feeding time yet!

I'd like to see full tank shots of members setups for their Malagasies please :)
Thanks!

This is my 6ft Malagasy tank, at this point it has 4 Paratilapia (5" 7"), and 5 Paretroplus maculatus (6"-7"), it is also the growout tank for some Herichthys bocourti.
It is mostly open to allow swimming room, and dissuade territoriality.

At first I had pots of large papyrus plants, and probably still would, except the bocourti ate them into nubs.

The bocourti will soon need to be removed, its getting too crowded, then some papyrus could go back. Even though their growth seems slow, the Madagascans are beginning to make the tank look tiny, the video is from back in summer, and you can see the papyrus has been literally eaten away, and soon after, the bocourti started eating the root balls, so they were removed.

Thanks Duane, very helpful. Hopefully it will take my Maculatus a while to hit that size. Plants are probably not an option here, unless its just roots or a boxed out section on the side. Even at their young age, they've systematically decimated any attempts at plants I've tried!! Any thoughts on competition at feeding time?

Hope your Tarantsy juvies are doing well :)
