Upgrading my tank from a 75 gallon to a 165 gallon and a 100 gallon sump.I would like to just add new water to what i have but dont know if i will get a cycle or if the rays would be ok.I am only gonna use the little bit of substrate i have in the tank now.May add some more later. And i also plan on running the canister filter that is on the tank on the new tank for a few months till the new media and stuff get bacteria grown on it.

Hello; It is my understanding that the balance of the beneficial bacteria (bb) population is connected to the biomass of the fish, snails, plants and decay products, not to the size of the tank. If I follow your post in that the canister from the 75 tank is to be used on the bigger tank, then the transition should be fine.

yep the canister filter from the tank they are in now i gonna be run on the new tank with the new sump for a few months while the new media in the sump can grow the bacteria.

Should be fine aslong as you use canister filter but try not to over feed and keep testing water regular
