What is the least painfull way to upgrade a FOWLR. Going from a 72 gallon to lets say 150. I do not need new equipment because i always had an upgrade in mind so i purchase my sump, pump and skimmer rated for a much larger tank.

the easiest (if not most expensive way) would be to set up the tank like you would any new one

let it cycle with some LR (~150 minus what you have already)

then transfer the old LR and fish

I would have to cycle again?

cycle the filter at least (leave it on the old takn for a while) then move it onto the newly filled tank then transfer the fish and rock, etc

id do a sump for the 150. Its going to be the easiest way to filter that amount of water efficiently. my opinion anyways lol. But yes id agree with Big, cycle and transfer. The tank will still go through a diatom stage but as always will go away.

Good luck

I was planing on using the wetdry from my 72. If i remember corectly it was rated for a 180 I dont remember how many gallons it is haha but it barely fits under my tank i have it at an angle to get most of it under the tank.

What do you currently have in the 72 gal? Will the 150 gal be set up in the same location where the 72 is now?

I have a niger and a voiltan lion, yeah the tank is going to be in the same location. I want the 150 because i want to put my 8 inch tessalata in there when its big enough.
