Is there an average price paid for a used tank per gallon? I have a 85 gallon and trying to upgrade to a 180 gallon. Just wondering if there is something to show what a good price is on a tank like that
Thanks

usually at least around here the rule of thumb for used tank only is $1 per gallon some ask for more some less HTH

I'd say 1-2 bucks per gallon, depending on what kind of shape the tank is in. At $1 per gallon, I personally expect a few scratches. Also, acrylic will generally cost more than glass. If your tank is in decent shape, I would probably ask for $100 for the tank alone, and then entertain offers for a bit less $.

really depends on what the tank comes with...

for example. i bought my 230 gallon for $350 bucks. all it came with was the tank and the stand... so i had to buy some glass lids ($50) then lights ($60) and Filtration(so far FX5, $230+media $30 and AC110 $60)

so my tank total costed me about $750 bucks. if you find a 180 gallon for $500 that comes with everything i've listed, it's a pretty good deal... but if it's just the tank and the stand, then i'd only pay about $300 for it...

I think $1/gallon is fair up to about a 55g. I would never sell a 125g for $125, regarless of condition, if it holds water.

Once you get to 75g and up, $2/gallon and maybe even more is fair.

if you're patient on craigslist you're sure to find a great deal... people move in and out of cities everyday and they don't know what to do with their fishtanks so they get rid of them for cheap.
