i have a 55 gal tank that has about 20 fish in it and for some reason the water is always a whitish green color and i can't even see the back of the tank. i checked all the levels for nitrites and ammonia and ph and everythings fine. i have a 25 right next to it that is perfectly clear and it has about 7 or 8 fish in it. any ideas on why it's like that or how to fix it?

sure it is not algae. Also, regular glass has a greenish tinge to it. Post up some pics

I'm thinking it's some sort of algae bloom as well.

Do you know if the tank has a high level of phosphates?
What is your water change schedule?
How about filtration??

i don't know the phosphate levels i do water changes about once every month and it's only like 30 percent of the water. the filter is a penguin 350 biowheel filter, it's ment for a 75 gallon tank. this is what it looks like right now.

Find a finer material to put in your filter (cotton)and some good bacteria and it will be gone in a couple of days. Worked for me on my gold fish tank last week.

that looks like uneaten food and fish waste that isnt getting picked up by your filter.

My water was looking the same as yours. I have a 270G. For filtration I was running a wet/dry (1200GPH) with 50 micron filter media and 2 XP3s loaded with filter floss and my water still looked like yours (no overfeeding, not overstocked, weekly 25% water changes and all water conditions were ideal etc). I tried leaving my lights off for a week, but the algae bloom persisted. My tank had been cloudy for over a month, so I finally gave in and bought a product called Algae Control by Tetra. I added the recommended dosage and my tank was crystal clear within an hour. My fish were fine- no adverse effects (I have no plants though, so I can't speak to how plants would react to the treatment). Assuming you've done all the maintenance I referenced above, I'd say give this product a shot (there are mutiple brands, but they all seem to use the same active ingredient).
