Im going to buy a used tank 240 gallon aycrilic but theres a problem on one of the top corner is seperated. the top sheet is sepereated from the tank just the corner I was wondering if i could just glue it back on since the local lfs said it would be fine. The guy im buying from said that the glue just wared off and I can just glue it back on that corner. He said he kept it outside for a year. Im buying the tank and stand for $350 but he said the stand needs some little support added to it. Do u guys think its ok to buy it?

its questionable. some of the best deals you find require a little TLC. being that its acrylic and not glass gives you a MUCH better chance at getting your moneys worth. and build your own stand for cheap. you will get a big tank for quite a steal. just in my opinion though. some people wouldnt touch it

But do u think if i reglue it, it would hold and it would be fine? The stand is no problem since my dad and I make them.

How did the top pop loose? is the top warped? If its not, clean it up, re-attach it with some good glue (Specifically for acrylic) and hope for the best!! oh...try to get them to come down on the price:)

It wasnt warped he said the glue wared off but he said all other corners and sides are strong. If i do get this tank my lfs would hook me up on the acyrilic glue. HE said he wont lower ths price but Im thinking of getting it since the monsters I have will outgrow my 125 gal later on.

I dont think acrylic glue just wears out...i could be wrong but i believe it actually bonds the 2 peices together. Either way, you should be able to make it work

you're right, acrylic glue doesn't just 'wear out', it chemically bonds the two together. if part of the tank is separated, it would make me question the strenth of the other bonds. something like this could occur from a tank being placed on an unlevel surface, which means stress was put on the other joints in the tank as well.

So u think it would be aright to get the tank and just add some bonding to it?

If you do buy it and repair it my advice would be to test it outside that way if it does blow a seam or something there's less damage. thats where I test used tanks.
