I have a 60g tank planted with live plants, virtually all hardy stem plants. I'm wondering if you guys think I can get another fish in here.

Right now I have:

Carpintis - 4-5"
Firemouth - 3"

Both are pretty mellow, both males as far as I can tell, the Carp does some minor trimming of my plants from time to time.

I'd be looking for something that won't outgrow the tank obviously, but also wouldn't want to murder my 2 fish. Also, someone who wouldn't want to eat all of the plants.

Do you think I have the tank space for another fish, and if so, can you suggest one that might blend well with the 2 I have in there?

thanks

I think just the Carpintis is more then enough for a 60 gallon. They almost get as big as Oscars and Midas and the recommended size for one of those is 75 gallon.

What's the footprint of the tank?

I would rehome the carpintis and get another firemouth and a couple Honduran red points. Add some dithers to the top and tank done. Unfortunately the Texas will be too aggressive with the firemouth in a 60 at its max size. It would be okay by itself, but not with another fish.

Yes, I have seen a full grown Carpintis and that one was, well not quite as big as a good sized Oscar, but he was certainly around 11 inch.

You are fine, carpintis and Texas cichlids are different species, the cqrpintis is significantly smaller. You can always get some medium sized bottom dweller such as a Senegal bichir. As for more cichlids you can try something
like a red parrot cichlid, or a flag cichlid... Just make sure your filtration is A++.
