tankmate compatibility

i can get a spotted gar 15 cm, i could also get a silver arowana about same size.

they would be going into my 280 gal tank for 6 months till i upgrade to my 10 by 2 or 3.
can this work?/
also any other tank mates i could include.

it is also possible i can get more than one of either.
just wondering what can live with eachother

they both can go well together. if you really are getting a tank that big, just get both. try 3 aro's minimum, seems to help aggression. i have had bad luck with odd numbers of aro but others haven't, all fish dependant. i have 6 gar and 3 aro's in my big tank. along with a dozen or so bichir, a jade goby, a fire eel, and a dat. (i think thats it...)

i have an aquarium near me with about 3 silver arowana and like 2 or 3 alligator gars which have been there for about 2 years and they say its been fine so i have been given very mixed oppinions on it. i might just get the arowana at first an see how it goes an then get the gar a few weeks later. they are both very small so i'l try it out an see how they go, they might grow to like eachother if things start to not work then il quickly rearange tanks an give them seperate ones or give it to my friends who have similar fish
