Hey everyone,

Well I'm making my final move next week, and my 5" male marble convict will be upgraded to a 40g breeder tank. I'm planning on adding 8-10 gold barbs as dithers. I'm torn over whether to get another cichlid as a tankmate for him. For those of you who haven't seen him, he has these gorgeous long fins and he's pretty much my baby. I don't want anything to happen to him, and I don't want him to get beat up! He's been housed with blood parrots, a female con, and other juvie cichlids (JD, GT) before, and for some reason he's always the most submissive of the bunch. Does anyone have any ideas for one very colorful cichlid that would probably do well with him? I was thinking maybe female GT but the tank might be too small and it'd be hard to guarantee she won't be a b*tch. Any ideas? Or should I keep him solo...

You may can try a firemouth with dithers (gold Barbs), and maybe a couple of cory catfish, but I wouldn't try no more than that in a 40 gallon tank.

Thanks. Yeah, I set up the 40g tonight and it looks so much smaller with all the decor in it. I think it'll just be him and the dithers. Oh well...

Believe it or not, he's peaceful unless the other fish is one of two things:

- pleco
- female con

I had a female marble convict that I was very fond of. They had one spawn and he beat the crap out of her afterwards. I separated them, then reunited them. Second spawn, then repeat offender.

I'm not doing that again, haha.
