Medway Me.
I have a 3'/6'/2' aquarium with a 6" aro. Do you guys have any suggestions for tankmates? I am looking for color and it has to be from the amazon. I was thinking silver dollars, discus, angels or some kind of cichlid. A big school would be nice. I am getting a bigger tank soon also so space is no issue. I just want to hear some of your suggestions.

Clearly you dont know what discus behave like. Discus are pristine fish who needs MUST be met. Most cichlids would flog a discus, so discus are usually kept with cardinals and corys, etc bottom feeding fish. They like to be in groups or pairs. Setting up a quality discus tank is very expensive. pH needs to be roughly 6.6-6.8. Not ideal for most cichlids. Discus arent too aggressive but they arent calm either, it really depends on the fish but If I was you, I'd stay well away from discus.

Yep stay away from discus, and really your tank is still going to be a little on the smalls ide for a silver. Why not some Datnoids.

You guys are way off. Domestic discus are very hardy, and can survive from 5.6-8.0 pH, and hardness can vary quite a bit as well. They are becoming more commonly seen with aros, particularly asians. I see no problem with them or the angels while the aro is small, but once the aro gets larger, the angels/discus may run into problems.

^ I agree. I do think the silver when full grown might be big enough to cause trouble with angels and discus. I would probably do a lima shovelnose and one of the "designer" plecos for the bottom, some silver dollars and moderate-tempered SA cichlids (severums, uaru, oscars etc) for the mid-water, and of course the aro who will hang out near the top in general.

Thank you guys, all of you. How about this... A lima shovelnose and a shoal of 4 sds.

Discus are too expensive to risk, and cichlids will probably pick on the aro while he's young. And this friggin aro means the world to me! :D

Another question what are leaf fish like? they are from the amazon right? I've herd their aggressive I've never seen one in person. I dont want one im just curious. I just jacked my own thread! lol :screwy:
