Tankmate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no. Archerfish are brackish while freshwater rays are just that. freshwater.

Not unless you can get your hands on the FW archer fish.

Most of the FW are pretty rare to see in your LFS.

  • Toxotes oligolepis (Australian, Western, FW)
  • Toxotes lorentzi (New Guinea, FW)
  • Toxotes kimberleyensis (Australian, Western, FW)
  • Toxotes blythii (Myanmar, jury is out on keeping them FW only)
Having said that, we still don't know a whole lot about the whole life cycle of Archer Fish... especially the ones listed above compared to say Toxotes chatareus.
Finding them in aquaria also seems to be difficult (at least here in Australia).

so far 4 NOs .... well I will have to say YES. Toxotes blythii are 100% freshwater. They are top swimmers and are fast swimmers when needed. My only concern is that the motoro will get very large while blythii will stay smaller than its brackish counterparts....... I would say 8"s. If the tank is tall (ie 30" or taller) and has a large enough footprint, it shouldn't be a problem. T. blythii are ocassionally on sale here on MFK. Price ranges from $100 to $150 per specimen. Actually, there are 4 available now... being sold by one of the vendors here. These archers are very hardy and will acclimate to your rays water parameters (ie low TDS, etc).
