I was thinking an alligator gar, and some sort of pike. They seem to have the same dont mess with me and i wont mess with you demeanor as the baracuda......opinions please.

I take it you meen Saber Tooth Tetra-Payara (Hydrolycus scomberoides)

First of all they can get up to 3 feet or more but the biggest I have heard of is 18 inches in the home aquarium (Getting back to my fishing facts the world record is 39 lbs. 4oz. A very popular game fish in the Amazon ) They require lots of open swimming space, a tight lid cause these fish can jump. I wouldn’t keep them with any other fish in the tank though, especially anything small and mouth sized. I have also been told they can be territorial. As for the gar you are talking a huge fish there they get to 10 foot ok thats in the wild but could you house this fish?

take a look at this link as well

I hope this has been of some help but i think you could be looking at a single fish tank there.

You pegged it he's a payara, sold to me as a baracuda.... no matter i like him all the same except for he has ICH! ARGH :swear: I have begun the temp and salt treatment tonight, hope he and his current tankmates pull through.

Anyways, i was going to give him a new home ( 55G ) and a gar and some sort of pike to be his new friends. I dont see the gar outgrowing the tank, but i dont know if he will like the rapid water that the payara likes. The tank will probably be set up with a magnum 350, and 2 aquaclear 70's as his current home is, but will probably get a power head or two to make him feel more at home.

I HAVE 2 OF THEM IN A 220 GAL WITH SOME CATFISH AND CHICLIDS AND OTHER CHARCINS. THEY SEEM FINE AND DONT BOTHER ANYTHING BUT FEEDERS

scombs are very sensative to water conditions. Rescently many hobbiests have come to the conclusion that the large payara seen are not scombs, but armatus. Scombs seem to die off at around 12 inches. This seems to be their natural (tank) max size. The larger ones Stotty mentioned are most likely armatus. They can be very expensive though. If I were you, I'd take the scomb back to the store you bought it from, and order yourself some redtail payara. I'm sure some of the vendors here have them for sale. They are WAY more outgoing, and they get larger than scombs in home aquaria. They are not as expensive as armatus, but they are much better suited for the tankmates you suggested. They are also a lot hardier, so you shouldn't have much of a problem with ich. Good luck bro.
