I've read about everything I can on these guys, texas cichlids that is. Most of what I see says that a breeding pair needs other fish, dithers I guess, so the male doesn't injure the female. I'm trying to read through the crap. It seems that there is so much different info out there. I was really hoping to just keep the two in a tank. From those who know... What's the real story?

Oh for those that want to know they are about 8in and the pair was about $100.

you paid 100 for a pair i would have sold you 25-30 texas's for that and as far as i know and breed mine they are fine alone or with other fish they will get vrry agressive

I would just use a transparent divider or an egg crate divider and periodically remove it on your days off so you could monitor the two. Also, some people have breed cichlids without ever removing the divider. Females lay the eggs and males skeet skeet across the divider.
