Moved into a new house about 2 months ago and I think it's finally time I start setting up my tank. Bought a used 125 a while ago and I'm excited to finally get it up and running. I haven't made much headway in what I want to stock once it's cycled. Too many choices! I know I want a green terror, but still looking for tankmates. I was thinking maybe a convict. Not a fan of Oscars. Other than that I really don't know. Clown loaches? Giant danios? Firemouth? Any input or suggestions would be welcome. Help me stock my tank!

Do you have good LFS nearby? Or if you can order online you will have larger selection.maybe look into a SA theme.you can try a chocolate, brasiliensis, keyhole with the GT

I have a few within 30 minutes of me, although I haven't been to them much since I've been out of the hobby for so long. Thank you for the suggestions, I will definitely look more into those. Now that you've asked that question, I guess it would be smart to visit the stores, see which ones I like, and also see what's already available.

I'd so a gt ,salvini, 2-3 firemouths,silver dollars and a 4 line pim

Interesting, I wasn't familiar with salvinis until now. I'll definitely have to look into those more. Will silver dollars be ok with cichlids? I've read they're kind of skittish, but I guess if I have enough of them they'll be ok?

Another question: gravel or sand? I've never tried sand and I'm leaning that way, but I've never done it before and I understand it's more work to keep clean. I don't want a bare bottom tank. Thoughts?

A school of Red Hooks look great. 6-8 and they should school somewhat. I've seen lots of dingdong skittish cichlids mellow out when dithers are used. SD and RH are too fast generally for the cichlids.

In 125 I think super dollars will be ok. Buy a big school of them though. Like, 7 or 8. Don't do something like put a jag in there though. I think the gt should be the "big fish" in there.

I agree with some silver dollars, I would deff add a salvini but that's my opinion....fire mouths are ehhh to me haha I never had luck with my gt and firemouths to be honest it always depends on the fish's attitude
