Obviously it's detrimental for a cichlid to mature as a subordinate to another however is it beneficial for a cichlid to mature in a dominate role or is it better to be alone?

Also is it better to have hiding place i.e. flowerpot for them to hide or be out in the open

Bueller.... Bueller... Bueller... Getting a response on this site is like pulling teeth sometimes

If I said I had a dovii in a 75 I'd have people that have never seen one lining up to rip me a new *";hole but other wise its crickets lol

haha. i reckon if a cichlid matures alone itll be more aggressive (go for the kill) towards other fish whereas in a dominant role the fish will be less aggressive (just bullying) towards other fish. i think in the open theyll be more skittish at the start but for not very long. whereas with a flowerpot i reckon theyll still be skitish and probably for longer. this is just all my opinion lol (:

I think it depends on the species of cichlid we're talking about. However in general speaking of ca/sa cichlids I'd think growing up alone is probably better than just dominating one other fish in a tank. Now in a large tank with multiple fish, I'd say being the dominant or subordinate fish has no major impact on overall health.

Dude, you literally didn't even let sit for more than 6 hours. Not everyone checks the forums constantly through out the day. In regards to your question, I can say definitively either way. My best guess would be that having a fish be dominate wouldn't have a long term effect on development, but you would see more color while they were dominate. As far as hiding, you should have somewhere for the fish to go to feel comfortable, other wise they will most likely be more stressed.
