hi guys, im still undecided on what fish to put in my 150G (5ft L x 2ft x2ft).

i wanted a pair of GTs but now im hearing that they only get to around 7-8inches, rarely 12inches. plus they grow hell slow.

i think it would be a waste of tank space !
anyways, if i were to get a jag or 2, what other cichlid type fish can go in with jags ?

thanks!

A breeding pair of Jags probably wont tolerate much of anything in their tank. If you get a single jag, it all depends on the temperment of that individual fish.
I keep mine (14=15") with a couple of clown knives, a vieja, oscar, arowana, albino channel cat, chinese perch, common pleco, and had him with a flowerhorn.

needless to say, I have a pretty docile Jag.

thanks for the reply rallysman,

now interms of eye colour, do they retain the red eye right thru to adult hood ?
or does it depend ? if so, on what ? the quality of the fish ? water quality ?

yes they retain the redeye threw adulthood. It is possible to have a breeding pair of jags and something else in the tank if there is enuf spaces for hideing and such

jags are pretty aggressive! however i've kept festae, blue acara, oscar, jardini and so on and so forth but really ive kept heaps of cichlids with jags...just depends on the fishes own temprement...:)

my Jags red eyes turned to a dull orange.

Tankmates for jags..

I echo Rallysmans comments that each jag is different.
I have had two-the first would not tolerate any other fish-I ended up trading him to a friend who was looking for such a beast.

My current Jag at 12" is totally different, tankmates are a pike, JD, assorted cats and three bichers-Zero aggression.

Good luck-they are one awesome fish
