I've got a female jack dempsey about 8-9cm in a three foot tank (160 litres)
I know this tank is too small for her in the long run.
But she is only in there temporarily then she'll be going into my four footer.

So what might be good to put in with her for now?

Thanks :)

i have my baby male JD in with a severum , firemouths , 2 BN pleco ,3 convicts and 2 blue clawed lobsters so any of these could work with your female jack

Ok, that sounds similar to mine, I've got 3 bristlenose in there at the moment and some blue claws as well.
I don't wanna do convicts in case they start breeding.
How big do firemouths and severums get?

Wow sorry nah, just checked their sizes. Only looking for stuff that will stay smallish.

Would some fast tetras or something work?
Or something that looks cool but only stays about 5cm or less.

firemouths don't get that big , they gget to about 5inches . if your going to do tetras get them in large groups (4+) or else they will nip at your JD's fins and also dont get odd numbers like 7,9,11 etc =P
a group of mollies could also work but this depends on how aggressive your JD is.

Depending on how aggressive she is and how fast she grows, it's likely she'll take the chance as soon as possible to gulp any of barbs or tetras down, but as long as that's not a problem it should be fine; in my experience dempseys are too ridiculously aggressive to keep with anything other than other dempseys or cichlids who can hold their own/not get eaten. I used to feed my dempsey danios and goldfish, and he would destroy anyone who tried to eat before him XD he would protect the group of feeders from everyone else, too. It's likely it will be a bit of a search before you find just the right kind of tankmate, good luck! ♥

Haha thanks, yeah she doesn't seem to be growing too fast for now.
I do like the firemouths... I might have a look at them on the weekend.
It's just a bit of a boring tank at the moment. Haha.
