In a 120 long tank what tank mates would be suitable for living with a Lugubris type pike.

Some possibilities I had come up with:

Chocolate cichlid
Blue acara
Sajicas
Salvinis
Severums

Is there anything else that could be added to this list, something that needs to be removed. What combination would work best and I do understand that every cichlid will be different so this is a very generalized question. Please note that the above list is not the exact fish I want in the tank, it is merely a list of cichlids that I am fond of.

Thank you,
Kimberly

Hoplarchus psittacus (One of the best candidates and look phenomenal with pikes)
Red Terrors
Pbass
Festivums
Uaru
Dempsey
Midas
Texas
Satanoperca
Caquetaia myersi/spectabilis
Plecos
Vulture Cats
Medium sized pims (niger, giraffe, and so on...no RTC or TSN)
Giant Gourami
Arowana
Vieja
Thorichthys
Parachromis

Pretty much anything large enough that can take an occasional beating and not get eaten can go with pikes. :) I've kept just about everything with mine. Some work out better than others, but like you said, it depends on the fish. :) Be adventurous.

I currently have 2 14" to 15" vene's in a 220 gallon and they have been living with a pair of breeding flowerhorns, 3x polypterus ornate and 5x polypterus delhezi for roughly 2 years now with no issues. There is also one of the flowerhorns offspring in the tank thats about 6 inches now that no one has eatin or killed. Hope this may help.

Please note that most of these combos that work are done in larger tanks, like 250gals and larger. 125gals can work as community tanks for Lugubris, but you have to be more selective of the inhabitants.

Yes I understand that completely.

Right now I'm thinking

Lugubris pike
Hoplarchus psittacus
Chocolate cichlid?
Blue acara
Sajica
Silver Dollars

How would this work? I only worry about the sajica and the chocolate. Will the others be too aggressive for them?

I'd watch the sajica and the acara. They are a tad bit smaller and more laid back, resulting in getting pushed around probably. The chocolates and psittacus will be alright though. :)
