I am cycling a 29 gallon(30x12x18) planted tank with a 4 inch senegal and an albino african clawed frog (I love those guys), and I would like to add a couple rope fish. I know it sounds like I'm overstocking but becuase the polypterus aren't territorial and don't take up much tank space the only issue should be bi-load which is easily remedied with over filtration, frequent water changes, and planting. correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm looking for something that won't get too big and won't mess with my bicher. possibly a single angel fish. I also read firemouth chiclids aren't too agressive. I also thought about a butterfly fish, but I'm looking for something to keep the tank from looking empty that isn't small enough to get eaten.

If I don't have any other fish will my bicher and ropes swim around more? I've never kept them without other tankmates

also how do I avoid algea bloom without a pleco, becuase I know they tend to bother bichers.

thoughts, suggestions.

My best suggestion is get a much bigger tank first then we can talk tankmates.Btw
forggie is part of a bichirs natural diet and they can become territorial as they age

Sorry you cant mix these guys together.

The senegals will be more teretorial as they age and will need more tankspace.

yes, the filtration can handle a tank with some bioload.

African Butterfly fish will be a great tank mate.. THe angel fish has a 75% chance of succeeding. The firemouth cichlids will also be good. You could also use an elephantnose.ropefish will also be good. and a delhazi as well. but before you'll add tank mates you should upgrade the size of your tank.

nope

don't over feed. and use chemical Algae removers. keep the tank away form the sun. If you can't avind the sun cover the tank with a blanket or something.

thoughts, suggestions.

Just wanted to say that they CAN be put in with a senegal. As long as the ACF is bigger( a decent size bigger) then it will be fine. Here is a pic of my male then my female then the smaller female.

As you can tell the adult female is huge compared to the smaller female, and the smaller female is 3.5 inches not even legs stretched, while the adult female is a good 6 in or so easily(never measured) with it's hind legs stretched. It's also at it's thickest easily 1.5 inches thick. From this thread http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65770 it seems senegals can get up to 12 inches which I'm sure in captivity it's not that big. Even at 12 inches there is no way it could eat any of my frogs. From the 5 inch or so senegal I have now it seems it can barely open to eat the Hikari carnivore pellets. Even if it does it get territorial(which I'm sure it will) the only damage it could do is bite the frog, and these frogs are total spazzes, they would dart like hell, plus the frogs also have 3 claws on each hind leg so I'm sure it wouldn't be fun for either animal. So as long as the frog is big enough(not a tiny little inch frog with a 3 inch+ senegal)it will be fine. Just wanted everyone to know this, in the wild I'm sure they eat the smaller frogs but no way the adult ones.

(OP)I also have a 29 with a senegal and three African Clawed Frogs, One adult male and adult female and a younger 5ish month female also. Which I want to get a 30 long or something but is fine now.
