i have a medium sized piranha thats in a 10g tank. im buying a 55g or 75g tank and need some advice for tankmates. i have a musk turtle and a yellow slider turtle. does anyone know if i can put them with the red belly piranha??

nothing will work long term with piranhas (or has a very low chance of working long term). The turtles will end up horrendously mutilated by the piranha

the only thing that ive found that works is a pleco but most people would say (including me) that it's taking a HUGE risk

other than more piranhas of course

get a 75g, if you keep the turtle with piranha it'll either try to eat the piranha or the piranha will try to nip the turtle. I'm assuming you have red belly, the only long term tank mate will be more reds.

Yeah, it's a bad idea to put turtles in there, unless you have a really aggressive water turtle species, which you don't.

Like others have said, either goldfish or more piranha.

I could have sworn there was a sticky on this... Oh well!

I've talked with someone who said he got away with his plecos by putting them in first with tons of hiding spots, then putting the red bellies in a few weeks later.

Dunno if it'll work for anyone else though, but e had 6 or 7 6" long red bellies and a Pleco that was just a little bigger.

I had great luck with my 9 reds in there 55 tell i got them into there 120g, but in the 55 i had 2 8-9 inch plecos, but when i moved them to the 120g, 2-4 months later they ate the one, all but a rib and a fin, than they ate the other. fished him out before they ate his skull. I keep them well fed to, so im not sure why. Went for the tail and than from there.

Nerite snails are the ONLY tank mates I've had success in keeping with piranhas.
