Hi guys,
well, I got a little aro and soon I'll need to chenge him to a larger tank.
And, I'm starting to wonder, who could be best tankmates to him.
I already got two parrots, but I'm thinking in other fishes, like pintado catfish, clown knife fish.

which one i could use ????

I've never had a problem with catfish with my aros...I even have a wyckii in with my aros and he is very well behaved. As long as you size the tankmates properly, you should be fine. I've heard some stories of aggession from knife fish (no brainer if it's something like an Aba Aba), but maybe someone who has tried that combo can speak to it.

Other than what you mentioned, I have datnoids, Pbass, bichirs, mix of catfish, a spotted gar, and a lenticulata pike with my silver, black, and jardini.

i keep my silver with all my big south american fish like RTCs...TSNS....RTC/TSN hybrids....even gars and paroons and arapaimas....no problems as long as food is plentiful...eventhough im pretty sure that the arowana is small enuf to be eaten...

is the Oscar a good tankmate, even when they are small ???
like, my aro has 14cm, about 5", and a oscar with 8 to 9 cm (less than 4") ???

not if you ask me, i had a 5" oscar kill a 8" aro. im shure they'd be fine together at a larger size. my oscar just hated that aro.

geez, i almost bought an oscar just now (on an internet store),
its kind hard to find some species in lfs here.
i'm looking for a pirarara, rtc.

i always like the oscars, but if i put him with my arapaima, it maybe become his dinner.

i have my 7" silver housed with a both a silver and gold datnoid. so far so good with no aggression. also i have a clown loach in there also.

If you want an oscar wait till your aro is around 8-10 inches, a point where its not so fragile and has some thickness to it, then you can get an oscar half its size. I waited till my first silver aro was around 12 inches before I decided to put him with my oscar who was around 5-6 inches at the time. There was no agression whatsoever and they were buds. Course my silver went suicidal and jumped... Now my 2nd silver is just as long or a bit longer than my oscar, but because hes still pretty small, the oscar picks on him sometimes. It's more of a territorial thing, the Oscar only threatens my aro when it swims behind a certain rock which my oscar claimed his apparently...When it's feeding time though, they act like the other one isn't even there.

really nice oscar

my intention is to create the oscar together with the aro until he gets big enough to don't fit in my gigas mouth (that has about 20-22 cm).
He may not eat it, but can injure him, and the oscar can injure the parrots and the aro.
think i have to forgot about him for now, and wait till my aro gets bigger.

btw - really nice aro, is that yours ??
