tankmates?

I was wondering what other cichlid could live in a 55g with a jack dempsey,
I need suggestions because I don't want to overcrowd or cause the fish to fight.

It's going to be trial and error depending on the temperament of the JD. I had two. One tore smaller fish to pieces and had others hiding til I got rid of him. The other one would just sit with a school of feeders around her without any fear of being eaten. Try some of the small to medium cichlids that are not to territorial.
