Hello everyone!

I'm new to MFK. I've currently got a BGK and an African brown knife. These are in two seperate tanks, of course. They are both at about 6 to 7 inches each. I'm trying to get a tankmate for one of them, since right now they're alone and I want to have more than 1 fish in a tank. I was thinking a larger featherfin catfish maybe? I've been told it would work, and I've been told it wouldnt work. Has anybody had experience with bigger catfish and knives?

Have you tried senegal bichirs?

Bichir was my first idea. One of my friends told me how his bichir tore apart his BGK when he tried to add it, so I've been very cautious when thinking about adding a bichir with my bgk

If your friend's bichir is biffer than his bgk, there is a possibily of fin damages. But if the bgk is bigger than the bichir, he wont even think of attacking the bgk. Have you also tried peacock eels?

How big are the tanks? You can probably get a school of large Congo Tetras to put in with the African Brown Knife.

The fish I move will be going to a 90 gallon.
The end result I want out of this tank, is 2 fish that are of good size, and unique. I dont want a school of fish. Preferably just 1 fish that will present some kindof personality, to go alongside that of my knives.
Do Bichirs grow fast? I know bgk's are slow. I also feed pretty frequently. Wouldnt want the 3 inch Bichir to outgrow my bgk within a few months.
No peacock eels for me. I've never liked those guys for some reason.

Well, based from my past experice /w senegal bichirs they can grow to 9-10 inch for a year then they tend to grow slow. Just put a pvc pipe for the bgk to hide on. If the bichir wants to enter the bgk pvc pipe (territoy) the bgk's instinct is to scare the bichir away.

is the featherfin cat synodontis eupterus? if so it should be fine as would any syno, most bichirs, spiny eels, striped or spotted talking cats or maybe a severum:)

yes raphael cats are talking cats thats just what we call them in uk!
