we will be moving soon, and all my tanks will be going into the garage. im wondering how i can keep my fish nice and toasty in a completely unheated garage, and it gets cooold sometimes. should i just buy some extra heaters?

insulation and heat the building would be better i think. wood burners are cheap and low cost to run.

also search up diy solar heaters. seem easy and some what effective

yeah, you could always get a space heater (just make sure its reliable), that way you and your fishies will be warm in the morning when you go to get into your car!

hmmm, all good ideas. the house is a rental for now, might buy it later but cant alter it for the time being. it is a 2 car garage so heating it will be a pain, especially since there's no gas to the house, electric only.

was thinking i might make a foamboard room framed outta 2x4s in the garage, would be cheap, easy, and pretty efficient.

natrual gas has gotten so $$$$ electric is seeming to be not so bad. do you have 220 in the garage?

you seem like a car guy, you dont weld or run a compressor? any ways if you do have 220 northern equipment has baseboard heaters cheap. around $80 for 1 rated for 100 sq.ft.

yeah i use my father in laws welder, and bought my compressor for 110v because ive never had a place that had 220 available where i needed it, or even a garage for that matter. its tough toyin with cars in the elements, and a nagging wife about all the tanks in the house, so im extatic with glee about the move lol.

perhaps i should snoop around the garage some more, and see if theres 220 and if its insulated. thanks for the suggestions.

make an insulated shell for the tanks. Top, bottom, front, back, and sides. If you cant insulate the garage, insulate the hell out of the tanks. just take the insulation off to view them.
