is this ok? im going away for the weekend and i wanted to keep them on in my planted tank only just to help growth and maybe leave mom a bit less hassle, but is this also ok for the fish or is darkness essential?

put a timer on it, for fish it does have an effect over an extended period, planted tanks you may also get a nasty algae bloom with a short time if you're pumping co2. imo

CO2 actually inhibits algae growth, but yes, leaving the lights on 24/7 on a planted tank is asking for an algae bloom.

yeah why not put a timmer???

Wal Mart has timers for between $5 and $10.

the timers at walmart are decent and cheap. they only have one outlet but you can plug in a splitter and put like 4 tanks linked up to it

Two days? No problem, and a little algae would just mean a healthy tank.

But go with a timer if your lights auto restart (old ones didn't) then you can just leave it on there when you get back too.

When I turn my light on in my 55 gallon my bass gets pissed and starts whipping his tail across the water and takes his anger out on the two bluegills until I turn the light off.
