I heard yesterday one of the localish stores has tanks on sale for $1/gallon all the way up to 150 gallons. Last time they ran this sale 100+ were $2/gallon, but I've got my hopes up- I'd love to bring home a huge tank.

The question is- how big should I go? I have a 90 gallon already that I haven't even set up yet, but I'm thinking maybe I should just replace it with a size up.

Anyone have a suggestion for common sizes that have the best shape to them? Meaning, I like a 40 breeder much more than a 40 long, and a 50 tends to have more surface area than a 55. . . But from there, I really don't have a clue.

Thanks!

go for the biggest you can afford. remember to factor in taxes as well as equipment cost.

Woo hoo! Big opportunity calls for the largest tank particularly a 150g!:headbang2

Shhhh . . . The missus doesn't need to hear "equipment costs." She just needs to hear "cheap tank, limited opportunity."

Technically I can't "afford" any new tank . . . But I'm willing to dip into other funds until I can sell the 90 and recoup part of the cost. And after that. . . Well, I'll eat ramen for a while.

lol, I really like 125 you get length, depth, and width. It's like stepping up from a 55 to a 75gal, and adding a few feet, lol. But i'de go 150 myself ;)

The bigger the better is going to be what you hear from us....

$1 per gallon on large tanks is a very very rare opportunity. Even if you do not have the intensions of setting it up any time soon it may be worth buying the tank now and storing it until you are ready.

If I had this opportunity locally, I would buy the largest tank they had for $1 per gal that I liked. A 72" x 24" @ 20" tall 150 gal would be the best opportunity for me, but who is to say if they would have that tank in stock. I would just as quickly buy any 6' tank at $1 per gal... I have a 4' x 2' x 2' 120 gal and if you like your 90 gal you would love this 120...

You may also find this sale only applies to smaller tanks and may decide to get a few of them. Surface area is usually more important than volume alone, but you seem to know that already. I can't give you any advice as to which is a "better" size, as the use of the tank will dictate what is better... and I have no clue what you would plan on using it for...

Let us know what you bring home...

That's the kind of input I'm looking for. Last time they did the sale it was $1/gallon up to 50 gallons, 51-99 was $1.50/gallon and 100+ was $2/gallon. Which isn't quite the deal that I had hoped for. I'm about to head down there to see what they have now. At the very least, I'd love to pick up a couple 30 gallons to replace all of the 20 longs I have now- almost the same footprint, so much more space. I'd love to snag a 40 breeder or two, but I doubt they'll have that size. Ahhh, the anticipation. Now if only I can get the wife moving!

Whats the word? Id drive to Pa for a 1 or 2 dollar a gallon. Is there a limit on how many you can get? Is 150 the max?
