i was wondering, if i have a 29gal tank... why does it feel like it takes less than 29 milk jugs to fill it up? imean i take out 4 milk jugs of water and like 1/4 is almost gone

same goes for my 10 gallon tank, it doesn't look like it will tank 10 milk jugs to empty it! i take out one gallon and the water level goes WAYYY down. each time.

i think they measure a fish tank by the weight of the water? not sure though and not sure if im coming out clear here lol

yea, i thought even by weight, a gallon is a gallon is a gallon... X(

gravel and decor will fill up a bit of the volume and if the water isnt filled to the top it is less that 29 gal

id agree with you, but if i filled the tank without anything in it and placed my plastic rock formation and my castle gate in there i cant imagine even a gallon pouring out to displace it :nilly:...

i been say something about this. my 55g long holds about 40-45 gallons

tanks are measured by the outside glass dimension. measure the inside dimensions, thats how much water it will hold, and yes it makes a huge difference.

for example a 180 really holds about 150g

Measure the inside of your tank in inches, L x W x H divide by 231. This is the amount of water your tank will hold. Most tanks do not hold there advertised volume
