Bio:so I have had 3 bichirs for bout a week n I'm liking them, and I'm getting more into them
Question: is tank design a big factor
I'm looking at getting another tank because I want one lol n I was told I might need a bigger tank so I'm wondering how does the design effect the fish or does it
I'm looking at a 75g tank that measures: 36 wide 18 deep and 25 high (approx.)
Would this be a good environment for the bichirs it's more of a cube design than rectangle I see a lot of ppl talk about a footprint for a tank what is that???. like I said only had these fish a week they weren't my choice I was watching the for a friend BUT I like them n they are mine now lol so I'm trying to learn what I can!!!!!!

Footprint is the part of the tank that sits on the stand, or more specifically the dimensions of length and width. In this scenario your footprint is 36"x18". Poly aren't open swimmers and gain little from height, which is why footprint is stressed. All that said, I know far too little about poly to give you a reliable answer.

If u keep to the upper jaw species. Then not much to worry about except for ornates and weeksiis. 18 inch depth will be ok but 2 feet wide is even better. The lower jaws will need wider tanks than cause of their potential size. Also take into consideration what the above peoples posted.
