Forgive me for being such a noob, but all I ever had is tanks with hoods. How do you put lights on a tank with a glass top? Can you put a hood on a tank with a glass top? The tank in question is a 55 gallon Aqueon (All Glass).

You just take the light off the hood and sit it on top of the glass.
Yep.

Yeah just lay it on the glass. I personally like the glass tops with the lights on top. I think the hoods look to bulky.

I don't think it looks crappy.

It sure is cheaper to do glass tops with a strip light on a tank than the full plastic hood. Also, with glass tops it is easier to seal up the tank in case you keep fish that like to escape. The plastic back strip on the glass is a lot easier to cut to fit your equipment than those plastic hoods with "punch out" backs.

Glass tops also let you use any kind of lighting you want, no messing around with "retro-fits" that may not even work on the plastic tops.

I have one tank with a plastic hood, my goldfish "show tank" in the living room. Everything else has glass.

Totally agree. I hate having to punch a 2 inch hole on the hood for a heater cord.

those plastic hoods suck. they always look like crap after a few months. glad lids are much better
