I have a 75 Gallon tank I got off craigslist that had sand already in it so I'm not really sure what kinds of sand it is. There are small and larger pieces of sand mixed together if that helps. But here's my issue with it. My fish seem to like to sift through the sand and it ends up all over the top of my driftwood, what do you guys with sand do to remove the sand from being on top of the decor in the tank? I've attached a pic showing the sand hope that helps, maybe someone could say what kinds of sand it is from the pic.

fish are pains in the decor, i have removed almost everything in my tank because blue will move it anyway....i put rocks (heavy ones) throughout and the next day they are all pushed to the right side of the tank in a pile. after 2 weeks i gave up got tired of my arm being wet from putting them back.

Looks like play sand, the kind you buy at Lowe's for $3.50 for 50 pounds. When this happened in my tanks I would use my tongs and push the sand off the wood. Works okay, but my fish liked it better with the sand on the wood (they kept doing it!). :-)
I was thinking play sand too.

man id hate to play in that sand if i was a kid! i'm thinking more of the General Purpose sand because of its color and misc gravel

I just leave it be too. Only so much will cover the wood before it starts sliding back to the bottom. It all tends to even out on its own anyway. Except for the fish playing in it, which they do seem to like sand for that more than gravel.

Another reason to go with sand, IMO.

I think it's play sand and gravel mixed together... About the sand going on top of your wood, just let your fish do what they want... or you can remove them by carefully shaking your hand near it and it will drop back to the bottom...

J. Cardona's right, that's general purpose builder's sand. I've used it in my tanks, but it's a PITA to clean. Obviously the solution is to remove the cause of the problem: your fish! :D Just kidding. There's really not much you can do to prevent it from happening. Learn to accept it.
