I am just wondering if any of you have succesful planted tanks that are using co2 through a cylinder and are on faucet water rather than RO or DI water. I am about to set up my 54 corner planted again, but was wondering if I needed the RO/DI unit I have used in the past.

My tap puts out a ph of 7.0 with a Kh of 3. Phosphates don't register. Gh isn't too bad either. Parameters seem like it would work.

with those types of readings i think you would be okay. remember to use your liquid ferts and the proper gravel. post pics when your done!!

Those water params will be fine for a planted tank. If you are going full setup, with high light and co2, then don't bother with liquid ferts, and don't gravel vac. Get Greg Watson ferts, and watch it over grow itself.

Used tap water for mine and no problems.

Thanks for the advice. When the tank was up and running (up until February), I was using 100% RO/DI water. I added equilibrium, flourish potassium and excel. The tank has 100% flourite substrate and the lighting is a 150 watt HQI. It was looking really good. Even had the gloosostigma filling in the front. Hopefully it will go as smoothly this time around with tap water.
