i am convinced that there are tapeworms infested in my tank.

i can see them squirming around in the water. my c. micropeltes surely has tapeworms in its belly. i've seen them hanging out of the backdoor.

i was thinking of dissolving a tapworm pill for people into the tank, and taking out the fliter wool.

comments or feedback would be appreciated.

thanks in advance.

its not tapewrom but a diffrent parasite. the fact that you can see them in you fish should be major cause for alarm. you need to do a little research in to fish disease and it wont take very long to find the culprit and cure.

Give me a minute, I have to pull some notes. fish get tapeworms as well as round worms. Don't use human meds! There are treatments, both as food and for the tank, praziquantel I think but I'll check and be right back.

Yep, the treatment is the same for tapeworms as for round worms, use one of the medicated foods or mix your own following the dosage on the package, also treat the tank especially if it shares it with any other fish. It sounds like a heavy infestation. Jungle brands is one manufacturer that makes both pellets and a tablet for the tank, it will take care of both round worms, tapeworms and most flukes. Any product containing praziquantel will work. Unless the fish is wild caught it probably got themfrom infected feeder fish. If your fish won't take other foods and you have a suspect source for feeders quarantine them for a week in praziquantel treated water. If you can't find the fish product try a vetrinarian, it is used to deworm dogs as well.

gel tek makes a med for int. parasites, that works really well, i have used it on discus and angels, it clears up a wide variety of internal parasites including but not limited to nematodes, andand tapeworms. it takes 2 doses a day for 3 days. some fish you can just drop it in the water and they willeat it , mine are a little more stubborn than that, i net them, place them on a wet towel and use a dropper to force feed them, they dont like it but it makes them better. and as i said before if you withold feeding for at least a day some fish will eat it by the droplets all on their own. oh yeah it's called ultra cure px, and it is safe for all fish

not too pricey either about 7.50 for 4 oz

If you notice a red hairlike projection going in and out of the fish's anus, then it's most definately a nematode, the Camallanus Species. One of my juvenile umbees had this and I tried Geltec but the my umbee didn't eat it. I should have force fed him.

Anyway, I found this website that sells Levamisole powder, go to the bottom of the page:
A man by the name of Dr. Charles Harrison shipped me some powder and it killed the nematode in 36 hours. It is by far, the fastest and most effective treatment for internal parasitic worms.
