Howdy,

About that time to replace my heaters before something goes south on me.

I've been the hobby for a number of years and have used a bunch of different sized heaters from a bunch of different manufacturers.

However i don't know anyone using any of the new generation heaters that have and are coming into the market.
My first impression is that most of it looks like gimmicky. junk, but I could be waaaayyy off.

All first hand experience and fact based input welcomed on the new models.
Any opinions on your fav's old or new welcomed.

I don't like to toss out such broad topics into the forums, but it felt like failing to ask for community input would be pretty arrogant

* 180 tall South American biotope - larger fish so a sturdy two heater set up needed. Also I live in New England so the power has got to there.

if you have a decent budget id be going eheim jagers or fluval tronics, The jagers work a bit better but all in all they both last the time and are solid. I find the cheaper china made ones heat pretty well but they dont handle misuse at all and normally blow out after a year or 2 so its advised to change them every so often.

150w x 2 or 2x 200w to be safe would do a 180G imo! someone may wanna verify this as its been a while sense I have used a aquarium heater, I am certain 1 x300W is rated for 1000L (jagers, tronics are 600-800L rating)

Thanks for the input.

I'm a believer that you more often than not get what you pay for and I'd rather pay upfront than deal with dead fish later.

I'm currently using a pair of Rena Smart-heaters (after a "stealth heater incident").

Not tied to them at all, they were just a fairly well reviewed product I got for clearance pricing.

They're sturdy, but don't circulate well without a pump or output pointing directly at them. The sturdy helps as I have a couple of fish that like to break glass. I figure the heaters are at the end of their "safe usage" life.

I've always used the eheim jager (ebo jager) brand and found them to be well built and very dependable. I don't see myself changing any time soon.

Anyone attach more than one heater to this controller? Company apparently says it's ok according to one reviewer:

"I have over a half dozen of these JBJ controllers and use them all with Hydor ETH external inline heaters. They are easy to setup and have large LED number making it easy to see all my tank temperatures at a glance. T
I have contacted the manufacturer directly and they have confirmed that it can handle up to 1000 total watts of current. They specifically said that as long as the total wattage of ALL heaters connected does not exceed 1000 watts and that the extension cord is rated to at least 1000 watts (9 amps) there is no problem with multiple heaters connected. I personally have a number of these controllers with up to three 300 watt heaters connected.

Although F&S say no.

"Thank you for your question. We recommend using the JBJ True Temp Digital Heater Controller only as directed by the manufacturer."

If I went this route I'd check with the manufacturer personally, but just wondering is anyone here has tried it before

Thanks for all the input. I think I'm going with:
2x finnex max 300 heater controllers, and;
2x Eheim Jager TruTemp 250's

After listening to your advice, it seems like a good combination safety and longevity.

Thanks guys
