I have a realtively small jaguar cichlid in a 55g growout tank, the jag is on 4-5" and i wanna get him used to being with other fish so wen i move him to a bigger tank with fish he doesnt kill the other fish. So i was just wondering what type of target fish you would recommend, maby like some barbs of some type.. but im open to anything

Giant Danios, or Tiger Barbs would probably be better than another single cichlid. depending on the size of your tank you may even go with Tinfoil Barbs. Only if your tank is really large though.
How large is the future tank going to be? Giant danios are fine for now, but there is a good chance they will get eaten when the jag is an adult. Silver dollars would be good though, they'll get about 6" long and they're round so the jag won't be able to eat one.
What about silver dollars. They are too quick for the Jag most of the time and surprisingly interactive.

The future tank is 125g, but I think I'm gonna get a convict and a few silver dollars, any recommended school size for the sds?
