looking at adding another puffer to the collection but need an ID. Store got this in as an abei which it isnt. They are thinking maybe leiurus but I am leaning towards barbatus. Thoughts?

great. thank you

Asian Monotrete will have nostril tubes

African tetraodon will have nostril flaps

Heres a gsp in terrible shape and a healthy one. The big dot toward the tail looks target to me.

Thank you. I agree with you. I feel the one I posted is a target as well. I am purchasing him with the other one so we will see. What are you using for references to get your info? You have some fantastic information

Mainly Maurice Kottelat and Corvus for Asian fw puffers

Heres another one. I'm debating if above is a fangs. They don't always have a red dot.

Corvus :
" Short snout (< about 2.5 diameters of the eye) + clear target spot (can be red or another color, but must be obvious) = M. cochinchinensis.

Short snout + target spot not much different in terms of size from other spots and only red in juveniles = M. turgidus"

I think I'm going to try and purchase the leiurus and see what I get.
