(mods i placed this here in hopes of getting better info from hydrolycus keepers, instead of the general public.) ----------------Well in my area we had a power outage a couple of weeks a ago that lasted about 10 days for me. And i kept most of my fish alive by doing 3-4 water changes a day with warm water from the gas hot water heater. And of course my bio-bacteria was mostly killed during this time. I lost one of my tat's during this outage due to cold water temps and shock. And now that the electric is back on I am having ammonia problems. I have been doing 2 water changes a day around 40-50% and i am using prime conditioner. I have tested ammonia as high as 2ppm and nitrite as high as 1ppm. since i started doing the second daily water change the ammonia has not tested over 1ppm and the nitrite over .5ppm. Also the temp is at 80. ---------------But now one of my tat's is in trouble. I noticed 2 days ago that it was starting to list to one side and swimming around with its head pointing up. So i added some salt to the tank and left it in there. And it has not changed in 2 days so this morning I transfered him to a hospital tank that had a few guppies in it and surprisingly has good parameters. He has been in that tank for a few hours, but unchanged. I have the feeling my once school of tat's is getting ready to be a single specimen.------------------------------------------------------Is there any thing I can do to try and save this fish? any help is greatly appreciated.

Hydros are almost impossible to turn around once they take that turn for the worse..... I haven't been able to save a single one once they get to the point where they "loose thier balance" and start having trouble keeping themselves verticle.

Any access to products that "jump" start your bio? (Bio in a bottle)

Hope you have better luck than I did.....

I have put a one of those bottled cures in for bio just incase it does something. And the tat has been moved to a hospital tank that is heavily planted and somehow kept the bio alive thru the power outage. I have used meds in the past on several hydro's and if it has no changes by tonight then i will start some meds. Everyone says meds are bad for these but i have had good luck in the past and in this case it can't hurt. So tonight it will get some methylene blue to help with oxygen up take and nitrite poisoning and also some antibiotics incase the stress has let a bacteria set in. And also some salt.-------will see what happens.

IF it was me I wouldn't add medications.

85+ degrees and salt, with LOTS of O2.

Give me a holler this evening and you can swing by and pick up tons of media from my FX-5 if you need it, Just bring some in trade. I was only out of power for a couple days and everyhting is fine.

unfortunately this is too true....
everytime the hydrolcyus goes "off balance" ive never been able to save them either....
it just took a few hours and they would go down...
keep up with the water changes and try to jump start your bio filtration.

Thanks every one for the suggestions and Jd I might have it striaghtening out but i will see tomorrow. I checked the ammonia today before the first water change and it was at .25ppm after allmost 24hrs. Normally that would be bad but for this situation that is really good. But if it does not get better than I will call you --thanks again.--------------------------------i went ahead and poured the meds to it in the hospital tank. It was not getting any better after 3 days like this, so it can't hurt. I am treating it with maracyn and maracyn2 antibiotics and some methylene blue and also salt. This is my go to treatment for any ammonia/nitrite poisoning and also any bacterial problems. I have never had any injured fish but i would do this to them as well. It has worked for several scombs and the last to tats that i got. So I hope it works a miracle here aas well. I will keep this updated. Its been 3 days now listing to the sides and floating with its head straight up. sometimes bobbing out of the water.

No changes---still breathing but every other sign says dead fish. Going into day 5 like this.
