My tat is eating great, but unfortunately I cannot get him to eat dead feeders.

When I weaned my belonesox onto frozen I upped the current and dumped freshly dead feeders in the current and he would eat them. And then eventually he did this to frozen too.

My tat is in a whitewater tank and dead feeders never float or sink, they just go around in the tank's current. He doesn't really hesitate to try to snatch a dead feeder, but he spits it out right away. He inhales live, but for some reason he can taste that the fish is dead.

I eventually want to get him on nonlive foods as well as live. I never intend to stop feeding him live, I just want to be able to feed him nonlive foods in the future as well.

Does anybody have any ideas on why he is spitting these out and tips on how to get him to eat dead fish?

Dang. I wish mine would attack the feeders:(

spitting them out because its not that hungry. it took me two weeks to convert my biggest tat to shrimp, he would eat and then spit em out. starve him for 3 to 4 days.

Mine for some reason loves the small stuff. Feeder guppies and rosys are his favorite. My same sized falcirostris though always goes right for the biggest goldfish in the tank lol.

Hahaha:ROFL: could that be my problem? Ive been feeding him quarantined feeder goldfish. Should I start feeding him rosies?

Every fish is different. I would suggest only buying a couple incase he doesn't. Mine appears to favor guppies the most. I think it looks pretty funny. I'd say buy like three rosys and three guppies and put them in the tank and see what he goes for.

I dun see the reason for feeding non-live food, since the feeder have to die b4 being fed.

I am pretty sure that no payara will just all of a sudden eat something besides fish. You have to work your way down. When I trained my belonesox belizanus to eat frozen foods I didn't just dump frozen foods in, I put dead fish in since they looked like live fish first. Once he ate these as well as live it was much easier to get him to eat frozen foods.
