Would (Hydrolicus tatauaia) Red tail payara and Vittatus African Tigerfish work in a comm? I know armatus and gatf are kinda hardy at each other.. but how about this combo?

It's been done before, and more likely to work than a GATF/armatus combo. Just keep an eye out for any specific aggressors in the tank, but IMO that is a good combo of predators in a tank - one of my favorite combos to be honest.

They can be housed together as long as no major size difference is there uppon introduction.

They can be kept but they must be simalr size. The thing is, anything can happen and they can kill each other at any time.

many people keep these fish together, they are a good combo in my opinion as long as the VATF is an inch or 2 larger than the tat... the Armatus Goliath combo is a little more tricky since the Armatus grows very fast.... with that being said, i'd get the Goliath to at least 10-12 inches, then add a 6-7 inch Armatus and it should be fine.... In my experience these guys get along well together, with little or no fighting

I might go with this plan. I'll go with GATF w/ arma with the careful size difference as you mentioned since arma grows faster. Would it have the same concept if I'll toss in an aro? They should be of the same size with arma when I'll toss in an XB?

yes same concept, get the GATF first, grow him to 10-12, and then get a 7" Armatus, might be able to go with a 8-10 inch Aro, just cause the Goliath may try to eat him.... Silver Aro's, in my experience are more bold during feeding, therefor scaring the GATF making him eat less.... thats the problem i had, but my Aro was bigger from the start, so my Goliath was like 5-6 inches and the Aro was 10 .... in 6 months the Goliath was like 6-7 inches, qnd the Aro was 14-16 and it continued to get worse so i got rid of the Aro.... i think i could put a 12 inch Aro in my tank now successfully .... got to time it right, Tigers are a tough fish to find very suitable tankmates, too big and the Goliath gets scared and out paced in growth, too small and the ATF tears the smaller fish apart

Hmmm. I'm going to make a note of this thread. I am almost ready to start seasoning my ATF's new home: 144 1/2 circle tank, and I was hoping I might be able to put a friend or two in there since the tank is pretty large. Once he puts on another inch or two, I'll start looking for some young tats. I've always wanted one anyway.

Thanks for sharing.. I'll try my luck on this and hope ladyluck favors me. I just don't want my red or XB to be killed in the process. I can take it if my aro kill the ATF or arma but not the other way around.. it would be pain in the pocket. I'll just try to observe them and have the other tank ready if any trouble sparks.

My only concern are those massive fangs of the payaras. they can take any eye out with just contact. My angel fish lived with one bloody eye from my armatus and then the armatus ended its miseries a week later.
