This is cut and pasted from Cyphos, but I figured I would try to get some responses here as well :)

I have a colony of 12 moba's. They are about 2.5 years old now, and they share a 75g with 5 yellow labs, 3 cuckoo cat's and 3 white calvus. The frontosa's are about 2-3" in size.

Lately I've noticed that their fins are getting a bit tattered. I haven't really caught/seen the reason for this. I can't tell you if it's the frontosa's nipping at each other, or the labs nipping at the front's. The labs and calvus are in perfect shape, but the front's and the catfish are a bit tattered.

I have a 240g that I will be moving them to soon, but I have a lot to do around the house and haven't had the time to set up the plumbing or build the stand yet, so they won't be moved for another month or so.

I'm just wondering if its the lab's that are nipping at the frontosa, or if the frontosa are just maturing and are sparing a bit with each other. They don't look as if they are in terrible shape, they just aren't as perfect as they used to be. Again, i'm not noticing any overly aggressive behavior, or anything out of the normal aside from their fins being a bit tattered.

Is there anything that I can do to help the situation? I'm assuming that the larger tank will give them more room and that would help the situation, but is there any type of additive or any measure that I can take to help them out?

If you haven't seen any aggression within the group, I'd bet its the yellow labs. I would remove them personally. If your water is good, the fins will heal fine on their own without adding any crap to the tank. The only thing I would consider is epsom salts to stave off any fungal/bacterial infection on the fins themselves. But like I said, if your water is good, I wouldn't worry about it.

I have a tank with 4 larger (6''-9'') Fronts in it, and a common pleco. My water is as good as it can get, with daily water changes, and my fronts fins are all torn up. They are very peaceful with one another, and don't ever bother anyone.

They were crammed in a 55 gallon tank for 2 years before I got them. Their water was urine colored yellow.

I have been using Melafix in hopes to fix their fins, but haven't seen any improvements yet.
