Luckily for aquarists, the species names stay the same.
But I must admit, that IMO, beyond the DNA analysis, just simply by looking at body and mouth shape, and feeding strategy, especially for some like festae and ornatum, and bocourti and pearsei, a separate genus name has been calling out for years.
And the separation of the Nosferatu from the carpintus clade also seemed needed in my eyes, they are very different.
And the lumping back together of many Vieja types is not a bad idea.

This does not only happen with cichlids and fish.
When I was working as a microbiologist, bacteria would be given new names very often, it seemed almost every year a new genus was warranted.
As research (especially DNA) advances, the relationships and difference in species became apparent, and in so doing, change.
Sometimes seems arbitrary to us, but not to the science nerds (and I use the word nerd, with respect).

I agree some of the changes make sense, but marrona mi! another new group of names I get to mispronounce.......;)
