When I plug in the temp controller device it doesn't turn on. Is it worth getting a new temp device or should I trash this? I bought it used which came in a bundle with a bunch of other stuff. So not sure exactly what's the problem with it.

Can you provide more details? What is the controller temp set at and assume it was higher than your tank water temp at the time?
Thanks for replying...so the tank temperature is 70 and when I plug in the temperature controller nothing turns on. the heater is plugged into the temperature controller
Depends on brand. If its a finnex brand they have a circuit protection device that "blows" if it gets water near it in their units. That's a PIA. If that has happened its junk. The heater is probably fine as long as it wasnt run dry or some other damage occurs. Titanium heaters sre pretty bullet proof. Ive got the analog finnex heater controller it works fine and it costs about $40, temp is off about 1-2f. There are a bunch of controllers out there that will control that heat rod, honestly they all have good and bad reviews. I went with a name brand for the sake of it and my lfs stocks them.
Sorry I put the wrong brand! It's a JBJ true temp titanium heater with a digital controller. The digital controller doesn't turn on.
