Been doing some reading on crenicichla regani because I think I have some room for a tank under my 55. What is a realistic size for a regani tank for a pair? What if I wanted to do a pair plus some apistogramma? Would that be a death sentence for the apistos? Any good links for reading material and pointers are appreciated.

Go to forum for Cichlids under Pike you will find plenty of info, as a matter of fact there was a post about Regani earlier today.:)

Not sure if this is sarcasm or I'm misunderstanding you but I am already in the pike section.

I also should add that a single regani and some apistos might interest me too I just don't know if a pair is recommended to see more color or natural activity.

A 55 or even a 33g is plenty for a pair of regani. They are not going to be super outgoing no matter what. Plenty of decors and hiding places for the weaker of the two (yes females can kill males too) and a few caves. I didn't use dithers but high bodies tetras may survive.

Not sure about apistos. Not saying it wouldn't work...just don't know/

What about a single regani and a pair of apistos or something? I am more inclined for a 20 or 20L. A 29 would be the max size I can fit on my bottom rack.

I've kept regani with apistogramma in the past in a 6 foot 150 with plenty of plants and it worked. If it's a 55, I'd try it and but keep an eye out. A 55 js more than enough room fo your pikes. I'd say you can keep 2 pairs of regani if you have enough cover.

I have 2 pairs now in my 225 but j had them in my 30 breeder when they were under qt and they worked fo a month.

20L might be pushing it. Keep your eyes on them.

So I've narrowed down to two stock lists. A single regani and a pair of apistos OR a pair of regani only. The tank size is 20-29 gallons. Would this stock list work in this tank size. A bigger tank isn't on the table right now for this stock list.

Crenicichla are great in pairs. Their displaying to eachother makes it worth it. Get a group and let them pair up.
