Team aquarium?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I mean... I'll volunteer. Pick any one of my tanks, send me money for your half and tell people it's yours. I'll send photos once a week after water change. If you're ever in North Carolina well arrange a visit.

What about larger builds like 500 gallons or more?
Seems like that would be better with a team because of expenses and maintaining it.

I think being able to share an aquarium with someone could be mutually beneficial. But, as previously mentioned since you’re not able to keep the set up there that means someone else would have to house it. No offense but I’m not allowing a stranger into my home nor would I go into a strangers home and potentially end up having to “put the lotion on the skin or I get the house again”. Additionally, speaking from a monetary perspective are you paying for half of the costs( including tank/stand/filtration)? So yes a couple of close friends could absolutely have a “team” set up so it was me I’d reach out to your local friends to see what you’re able to come up with.

Speaking strictly for myself...I am happy to listen to anyone's opinions, and might utilize another's ideas in whole or in part if they make sense to me...but there is simply no way I would go "halfsies" on ownership, stocking or maintenance of any fish tank. I want to be completely responsible for it...or to have absolutely no responsibility at all.

I do have a friend whose health issues make the maintenance of his tank and outdoor pond impossible for him now. I've spent a fair bit of time and effort this past summer working on his setup, but most of the work went into setting up a similar system to my own, which means no buckets or hoses or siphons. He can now do his water changes entirely by opening and closing valves, no carrying of heavy stuff required. We even installed a laundry-tub/slop-sink in his basement to make cleaning of filters and other items very convenient and easy.

But this is a fellow whom I have known for almost 15 years. A complete stranger that I met on the internet? Even one who is willing to pay for all the hardware? Lol, not happening.

Tell ya what: you send me the money for the tank and all hardware, I get to decide the tank size, type, filtration, maintenance schedule and stocking...you pay for all that too, by the way. In return, I would email you updates each week to illustrate the progress of the tank and inhabitants. No actual visiting; we could say that we are Pail Pals.

As Clint Eastwood said in one of his flicks: "Yeah, I believe in gun control. If there's a gun around, I want to be the one controlling it."

I could absolutely see some positive advantages sharing with someone who has talents that I don’t. I can’t aquascape nor grow plants for **** so having someone who has that talent could be extremely beneficial as I would throughly enjoy an Amano style aquarium. Again, I’m not going into Buffalo Bill’s house or letting Jeffrey Dahmer into my home and letting him make drinks while I do water changes. I own a gun store and I build patrol rifles for more than 25 police departments throughout Illinois so clearly I wouldn’t take any chances.
