Hey guys. So last nigh I found an fx5 on craigslist fifteen minutes away from me for $100. So I went and picked it up, and I. Came with a bunch of ceramic rings. No other source of filtration though. So I hooked it up to my 125 and it's been running for twelve hours or so, doing fine. However, my tank is a mess and I want to restart it. New fish, new decor, substrate, aquascaping etc. It is a fully established tank...so how am I going to do this without cycling it altogether and endangering my fish?

run the Fx5 in to a large tote put your fish in there and use the media from your old filter to keep your BB alive while you change everything around, that way when its set up you can just move the tubes from the Fx5 back to the tank and be cycled

+1

I just did this with my planted. I changed to substrate from gravel to sand and every thing went fine.

Or if you're patient, and most of us are not, you can change things one by one, The Doctor
