Tegu CAVE size?

I have a 12"x16" flat rock if I secure this to the bottom so it can't fall on the tegu would this foot print work as a cave?

Thinking black n white, also this is only temp as a year after I get him ill have a larger cage built

why don't you build the cage before you buy the animal?

Because to build a cage that big wife would say no, but if I already have the animal and it needs a bigger cage she has to say yes

That is just not a good idea. Your wife could say get rid of it, refuse to let you build the cage.. Either do not buy the animal, or be ready to provide the best of care.
